A 14-year-old missing out of Pierce County is now believed to be a runaway. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department says the teenage girl went missing Sunday while on a walk near her home in the Frederickson area.

Aaleeyah Trenyce Shellman, 14, was last seen about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when she told her grandmother she was going for a short walk near their home in the 5300 block of 170th Street East.

Investigators originally believed Shellman was missing and possibly in danger, but that changed after conducting interviews with several of Shellman's classmates who attends Spanaway Lake High School.

"Please note that there were several rumors going around social media about clothing being recovered and/or other missing girls - this is FALSE INFORMATION," the department posted on their Facebook page Monday.

Officials hope that Shellman will make contact with her family soon and let them know she is safe.
