LAKE STEVENS, Wash. - Human remains found Jan. 3 by a man cleaning up property at Lake Stevens have been identified as a missing woman, 18-year-old Summer Francis Smith.

On the Facebook page for "The I have a Name Project" you'll find Summer's story, one her father is having a hard time accepting.

"I'm still within the shock of it all," said Jesse Smith.

Smith's daughter would have turned 19-years-old on February 9th. Instead of a party, the focus for her family now is the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Death Investigation.

Down a private road and in a wooded area, a worker found a human skull and called 911 on January 3rd. It led to an investigation that revealed human bones. The medical examiner identified the victim as Summer Smith.

"I keep asking myself if there was something I missed or if there was something I could have done, wishing I could have had one more day," said Summer's dad.

Summer's mother described the pain of losing her daughter on a memorial Facebook page. She called Summer "a beautiful free-spirit" and "an angel."

The Sheriff's Office searched more than 30 acres recently as they investigated the case. Deputies were able to collect some evidence at the scene in Lake Stevens.

Summer's mother last heard from her daughter in mid-November, according to a Search Warrant. Detectives are taking that into account as they investigate.
