A high-speed chase through some busy streets in southern California Monday evening involved several crashes, a violent confrontation, and a carjacking.
Police say the man behind the wheel was wanted for allegedly assaulting a peace officer last week. The suspect led police on a chase through Orange County.
The suspect began the chase in a black pickup truck, blowing through red lights, and crashing into at least two other vehicles. Helicopters were overhead, but there wasn't always a police presence visible on the ground.
In an effort to evade police, the driver pulled into a small street and approached a woman sitting in an Audi SUV and violently pulled her out of the car.
She then ran around to try and access her vehicle from the passenger side, while the suspect and another man struggled on the other side.
The suspect then backed up, nearly running over the woman before pulling forward through just enough space to flee and the pursuit was on again.
The driver wove in and out of heavy traffic, ran over a tree, and eventually ditched the car at the edge of a business park.
That's when the car chase became a foot chase, but not for long. A police K9 raced the man up a slight hill and tackled him to the ground in front of a driveway.
Police officers followed seconds behind and handcuffed him.
An ambulance showed up to transport the suspect to a hospital for injuries he received when the police dog took him down.
