Seattle rideshare driver violently robbed near Atlantic City Boat Ramp

After one passenger took the driver's phone, another punched her before the group took some of her personal belongings and ran off.

SEATTLE — Seattle police continue to investigate after a rideshare driver was violently robbed near the Atlantic City Boat Ramp earlier this week.

The Seattle Police Department says on April 2, officers responded to an apartment on Seward Park Avenue around 9 p.m. where a 37-year-old woman had found someone to help her call 911.

The driver told police that she was in the process of a pick-up at the boat ramp in south Seattle when a man, three women and a toddler got into the car and loaded their things into the trunk of her vehicle. She told police that due to not having a car seat in the vehicle for the small child, she would not be able to complete the trip.

The woman said she went to cancel the trip and one of the passengers took her phone. She told police that all the passengers then got out of her car, and she locked the doors while asking repeatedly for her phone back.

The driver told police that after the passengers accused her of theft since their belongings were in the trunk, the male passenger punched her in the head. When she attempted to fight back, she was knocked to the ground and struck by all of the passengers. The driver said her car window was smashed and the man also hit her with "a piece of driftwood."

Some of the female passengers took the driver's belongings and ran off northbound. The other passengers, including the toddler, were seen running southbound from the scene toward Seward Park Avenue South.

SPD's robbery unit is handling the investigation.
