Body found at site of Yelm motor home fire; Police investigating as a homicide

SWAT was in a standoff with an armed person who was found inside the victim's home for about six hours before they died by suicide.

YELM, Wash. — Police are investigating after a body was found at the site of a motor home fire in Yelm, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

Yelm police were dispatched to a "suspicious situation" on the 10500 block of Old McKenna Road Southeast at around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. The fire department was sent to a motor home and boat on fire, and after extinguishing the blaze, discovered a dead person. Law enforcement is investigating the death as a homicide. 

During the investigation by Thurston County patrol deputies and detectives and the Yelm police, investigators discovered two people inside the victim's residence, one of whom was armed with a gun. 

SWAT was called in and attempted to negotiate with the person for six hours before they died by suicide.
