Police arrest suspect after woman's body found in field near Tacoma church

Police responded to the area of North Pearl Street in Tacoma on Saturday morning for reports of an unresponsive person.

TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma police arrested a suspect on Saturday afternoon in connection to a homicide investigation, according to the Tacoma Police Department

Around 7:30 a.m., law enforcement responded to the 3900 block of North Pearl Street in Tacoma's West End for reports of an unresponsive person, according to police. The body was located in a field near a Tacoma church.

Despite life-saving efforts by police and firefighters, the Tacoma Fire Department declared the woman was dead. 

The woman's body had life-threatening wounds, which prompted the initial homicide investigation, police said on social media. 

On Saturday afternoon, Tacoma detectives identified a 30-year-old man suspected of the homicide. He was arrested by officers and detectives, with assistance by Tacoma's SWAT team, according to police.

The man was booked into Pierce County Jail on first-degree murder charges.
