Suspect in Tacoma ATM explosion caught after lengthy pursuit

An ATM at a Wells Fargo appears to have been blown up in Tacoma.

A man suspected of blowing up an ATM at a Wells Fargo in Tacoma was arrested after being tracked down by a K-9 unit Tuesday morning.

Around 4 a.m., Lacey police were advised of an ATM that was blown up with explosives in Tacoma. The suspect was believed to be living in Thurston County.

Police spotted the suspect's vehicle exiting I-5 in Lacey. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled and the vehicle "was quickly lost," according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

Tumwater police found the vehicle on westbound 93rd Avenue and another pursuit began. After driving several miles, the suspect fled on foot.

A K-9 unit tracked the suspect, who was eventually caught.

"Ultimately, the suspect was located by Jaxx [K-9 unit] and bit as he was attempting to flee farther," the sheriff's office wrote.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook that a Spanaway ATM was destroyed in an explosion in late March, another ATM was found on fire on April 3 in Tacoma, and an ATM exploded in Lacey April 4.
