3 injured in shooting in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood

Seattle police are still investigating what led up to the shooting and no suspects have been identified.

SEATTLE — Three people were injured in a shooting Saturday night in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, police said.

The Seattle Police Department said officers were called to the area of Broadway and East Union Street, near Stoup Breawing and Garage Billiards & Bowl, at 11:25 p.m. for a report of a man shooting a gun.

Police said two victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center, one in critical condition and the other with serious injuries. A third victim, considered a bystander in the incident, suffered minor injuries.

Seattle police are still investigating what led up to the shooting. No suspects have been identified.

"I was heading to a dinner with my family," said Prabhjot Singh, a Marysville man who was driving down Broadway Saturday night. "I thought it was fireworks.”

That's when Singh said he heard the sound of glass shattering; a bullet grazed his car's windshield. Simultaneously, he noticed about 40 people running and screaming "Shots fired!"

"Everybody just started running here and there. And so then I realized that they were shots," he said.

He then discovered one of the three men on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

"He was just lying over here," said Singh. "We could see the shrapnel and the blood coming out.”

He estimates the man to be in his late 30s.

"He was in pain. I could see it from his face," said Singh. "There was another woman that pulled out some piece of cloth. And she pressed it hard. I went back to check over there, on what's going on. And by that time, the cops were here.”

When the cops got there, they realized two other men were also injured and they interviewed witnesses, including Singh.

"The cops wanted to talk to me. So I told them, please give me like 10 minutes to calm down," he said.

"We could have been walking here, my son and my wife, anybody of them could have been shot. I could have been shot. Anything could have happened," said Singh.

Seattle police said it is unclear what led up to the shooting.

City crime data shows an uptick in fatal-injury shootings on Capitol Hill from 2021-2023. This year, the crime data has not yet been released.

As for Singh?
"I am not coming back to Seattle ever again," he said.
