Meteorologist Mary Lee says goodbye to KING 5

After three years, meteorologist Mary Lee is saying goodbye to KING 5.

Her last day is Sunday, Oct. 30.

Lee is taking a step back from meteorology to focus on family and spend time traveling. Lee said she will visit New York with her sister and mother, and also has a trip planned to China and Japan.

“Life is so short, and I just really want to live to the fullest,” Lee said.

Lee came to KING after working at KPRC in Houston, Texas, and KXAN in Austin, Texas. A Bay Area native, Lee was drawn to Seattle after her family relocated to the Kitsap Peninsula. In addition to TV, Lee has been involved with several community organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma society.

Lee said she would miss her fellow KING coworkers, along with the viewer community, the most.

“It’s really touched me how amazing that they are, so kind. How they are on the air, that’s how they are off the air,” Lee said.

Some of Lee’s favorite weather events she covered, include Pacific Northwest snow several years ago, and the windstorm this past March.

“When you have those type of events, you see the importance of your job, because we have a responsibility to keep people safe,” Lee said. “When you see that happen, viewers start sending pictures of trees down, another power outage, you see how it affects community.”

Lee said leaving KING is not goodbye, and viewers are invited to keep in touch with her through social media. Follow Mary Lee on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
