Pioneer Square bars hope for Seahawks Thanksgiving game day boost

Bars in Seattle are hoping to cash in on the historic Seahawks Thanksgiving game.

SEATTLE — Local bars in Seattle are hoping to cash in on the historic Seahawks Thanksgiving game by keeping their doors open well past the Thanksgiving eve rush.

For many, it's the first time they've ever been open on Thanksgiving game.

"I'm not sure what to expect, but knowing Seahawks fans they'll come out," said Kristian Lewis, general manager at Flatstick Pub Pioneer Square.

Lewis says a normal game day draws a heavy crowd for the bar which is just two blocks from Lumen Field.

"There's 60,000 people just right down the road and we see that before and after the game and we see a lot more business on those hours," said Lewis who is hoping for a boost on Thanksgiving.

He also said the bar has been getting phone calls and people stopping in from out of town asking if they were going to be open.

"Hopefully it's going to be a good day and people come out and play some golf," added Lewis.

Other bars like nearby Pioneer Tacos are offering a special Thanksgiving taco for the big game.

Lewis is just hoping for a win for the Seahawks.

When it comes to staffing on a holiday, Lewis gave employees the option of working Thanksgiving and making extra money.

He said many volunteered to work and that closing early at 5 p.m. allowed them to still have Thanksgiving with their families.
