Local organization aims to support families of addicts in the battle of drug addiction

When someone is struggling with drug addiction, the hardship is often shared with those around them. With their family first approach, Battlefield Addiction is working to coach both addicts and their families through every step of recovery.

Angie Keaty knows firsthand the heartache and struggle that comes along with having a family member become addicted to heroin. Her son, Devan, went through periods of sobriety that gave his family hope, but their battle against his addiction was sadly lost when he died of a heroin overdose in 2016 at just 23 years old. While her grief continues, she has now turned her energy to helping others find the path to recovery.

Battlefield Addiction, an organization spearheaded by Keaty and her co-founder Art Dahlen, a recovered addict himself, aims to connect the addict, the family, and the community in an effort to end the hold addiction has on so many individuals. With solution groups, family workshops, and special events geared towards reigniting relationships between recovering addicts and their families, Battlefield Addiction's motto of "We Got You!" shines through in everything they do. While they have partnerships with recovery homes and resources to help addicts on their path to sobriety, the organization realizes that families and friends of addicts need equal support.

The organization also just opened their Battlefield Coffeehouse at 129 A Street NW, Auburn, where you can support their efforts by stopping in for a great cup of coffee. The coffeehouse also employs recovering addicts so they can learn important job skills that will set them up for success.

To share more about what people can do if someone they love is suffering from drug addiction and how Battlefield Addiction can help, Angie Keaty is joined by Malinda Davis, who has utilized Battlefield's resources and whose son has just celebrated two years clean and sober.
