King County Sheriff's Office teams up with local police to educate and connect with communities

Offering civilians the opportunity to learn first hand about the inner workings of law enforcement, the King County Community Police Academy is open to anyone looking for insight and wanting to help make their neighborhoods and communities safer.

To offer the public a chance to learn more about the criminal justice system, what law enforcement officers encounter every day on duty, and what they can do to better assist police officers and their neighborhoods, many local police departments are partnering up with the King County Sheriff's office to hold community police academy courses.

Sea-Tac's upcoming Community Police Academy begins September 12 and runs for 12 weeks, with classes on Wednesday evenings from 6:00PM - 9:00 PM. Attendees will not only gain insight into the work of a police officer, but will also be able to take field trips to the King County Communications Center where 911 calls are received and the South Correctional Entity. Graduates will also be better equipped to keep their neighborhoods safer and assist police officers, helping make their community a better place.

Sana Wight, Community Service Officer for SeaTac Police, and Fall 2017 Community Police Academy graduate Kate Bysheim share more about the program and how you can get involved.
