BELLEVUE, Wash. — Hotel California by the Sea Bellevue addresses both physical and mental health when treating patients with drug and alcohol addiction. Their dual-diagnosis program is tailored specifically to each individual.

We know that everyone's treatment plan is going to be different from another person's because everyone comes from different walks of life," said Admissions Supervisor and Alumni Allie Wile, "Our staff truly cares about many of the clients there and many of us have been there ourselves so we just want to give back and see, 'what does each person need?' We want to meet them where they're at."

Dual-diagnosis treatment treats substance-use disorders and mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, and other mood disorders simultaneously.

"Individuals who struggle with mental health disorders may turn to drugs and alcohol as a form of self-medication," said Licensed Therapist Ipek Aykol. "We provide individual therapy sessions weekly, then our clients get to meet with their drug and alcohol counselors, and then they're closely monitored by psychiatrists and medical doctors."

Hotel California by the Sea Bellevue uses different types of therapeutic treatment depending on the needs of the client.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) works on people's negative thinking patterns and feelings that lead to addictive behavior, "We focus on challenging these negative thinking patterns that lead to healthier behavior," said Aykol.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is used to treat trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder or for any traumatic life experience. It focuses on the area of the brain that stores traumatic memory, "As a result of the EMDR therapy, people are able to process their unresolved problems or the issues and memories that they have been feeling stuck with," said Aykol.

Wile says that Hotel California by the Sea Bellevue aims to do more than help clients abstain from drugs and alcohol for a set period of time, "Our goal is to get people reconnected with their families, get them back in the workforce, volunteering again, really enjoying their life and feeling happy again and being content with who they are."

Hotel California by the Sea Bellevue accepts most private insurance and will work with people to find the best possible match of recovery facilities if they are not the best fit. They opened a new detox facility in Kirkland last August to create a comfortable home environment for those going through treatment.
