Evening Raves: 'Remarkably Bright Creatures,' shopgoodwill.com and Ketone supplements

Evening hosts rave about their weekly obsessions including books, online auctions and supplements. #k5evening

SEATTLE —

Saint

My rave is for one of last year's bestselling debut novels, written by an author born and raised in Tacoma. Shelby Van Pelt's "Remarkably Bright Creatures" was a Jenna's Book Club pick - and if you're looking for light and breezy reads, Jenna usually comes up with great recommendations.

This one's about a friendship that develops between a cleaning woman and a Giant Pacific Octopus at an aquarium, not unlike the one in Tacoma though it's set in a fictional city closer to Everett.

I know it's a weird set up but the story is really about a family and the people (and creatures) who help you find your way through life.

"Remarkably Bright Creatures" was the fifth most borrowed book at the Seattle Public Library last year and it comes out in paperback next month.

As many of you know, I'm very committed to thrifting and buying things second hand - and in honor of Earth Day, I want to rave about shopgoodwill.com which is an online auction site.

They have categories for everything you'd find inside a giant goodwill - and the listing come from different stores around the country.

Just find what you want, bid what you want, and wait.

I won the auction for a mid-century piece of art by an Italian painter - it was $46, a total steal, and it looks perfect in my living room

Be warned, the site can be addictive so use it responsibly.

You know that I have a minor issue with attention deficit. I have to rave about something that my wife has pushed on me, Ketone supplements. It tastes awful, but despite that I've found that downing a shot of this stuff seems to sharpen my senses. There's no caffeine or sugar. Supposedly, it's all about unlocking your body's natural fuel. Now I don't know about that, but I do know that it perks me up like chugging a bottle of hot sauce.
