PORTLAND – A percussionist for the renowned Portland band Pink Martini has passed away, according to Bill Tennant, the band's manager.

The band posted a picture of Rieth on its Facebook page, with the dates 1971-2014.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Reith died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Tennant said they are not releasing additional information at this time.

"Right now, to respect the family and friends, we're not going to make a further statement," he said.

Rieth played many percussion instruments for the band, including bongos, congas, cymbals, and the triangle.

Pink Martini is still planning to play at the Oregon Zoo this weekend.

"Derek would want nothing more than for the show to go on. We'll see you tonight and tomorrow at the zoo," the band announced on Facebook.

The group performed at Woodland Park Zoo on August 20.
