Facing Race Reporter

Sharon Yoo

Hi everyone! My name is Sharon Yoo and I’m thrilled to be KING 5’s Facing Race reporter. Prior to calling the Seattle area my new home, I was the race & equity reporter and producer for our sister station KARE-TV in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There, I reported on the murder of George Floyd, and the subsequent trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. During my near six years there, I also covered everything from blizzards to heat waves, as well as having worked on KARE’s show, “Breaking The News.”

Before landing in Minneapolis, I worked at Louisville’s NBC-affiliate WAVE-TV for two years, and was at Madison’s NBC-affiliate for a year before that. I attended Northwestern University’s Medill School of journalism, and began my on-air career at WLNS-TV in Lansing, MI. I like to shoot and edit my own video, and occasionally fly the drone to add a little bit of sparkle to my stories.

I’m a relatively new American! I was naturalized in August of 2022. I was born in Seoul, Korea but grew up in Singapore. My family still lives in Singapore and I am excited that Seattle offers direct flights home.

In my spare time, you can find me running, walking my two dogs or bouldering. I am also very dedicated to my house plants!

Please send any stories my way. You can reach me at syoo@king5.com or @SharonYooKING5 on Twitter.
