Shot fired in Tacoma school came from gun found on roadside

Police say three teens were playing with a gun one of them found near a roadside when it went off.
A Tacoma high school went on lockdown Monday after one shot was fired outside the school at the lunchroom wall.

Two teens now face charges of reckless endangerment and possessing weapons on school grounds in connection with the shooting incident at Oakland Alternative School in Tacoma on Monday.

Maximino Dominquez Tovar, 17, and Dontae Akira Bell, 19, allegedly fired a shot in a basement bathroom at the school.

Detectives say Bell found the gun near the side of the road, called two friends into the bathroom to show it to them saying it was not loaded. Bell handed the gun to Tovar, police say, and the gun went off when he pulled the slide on the firearm.

The bullet went into the floor bathroom and no one was hurt.

Police say Bell gave the gun away at a bus stop. Officers tracked down that person and recovered the gun along with two magazines.
