Washington State Patrol K9 officer Sonyi is recovering well from surgery due to an infection. The dog was doing well after surviving a threatening lung disease in January. He had an operation on Wednesday for another infection.
Sonyi works with the Washington State Patrol’s explosives team. Dogs working in dangerous conditions like chemical exposure are at risk for all kinds of issues.
Surgeons found an abscess in his chest behind his lungs, according to Sonyi's handler. The infection was most likely caused by some plant material that migrated throughout his body. He has a chest tube to allow any fluid to drain.
Now doing well he is wagging his tail, and munching on chicken.
