Take 5: Daughter's death inspires Tenino mom to help others

"We did everything we could to try to save her. It was the worst day of my life all around."
Brynn Johnson lost her daughter three-and-a-half years ago in a tragic accident.

Rowyn Johnson would have celebrated her fifth birthday on April 19.

When Brynn Johnson lost her young daughter, Rowyn, to a car crash in 2014, she didn’t know how she’d ever heal.

The entire town of Tenino rallied around the Johnsons when they lost Rowyn and even paid for the funeral expenses.

"It brought my community together," Brynn said. "It showed people really do have big hearts."

Brynn and her friend had an idea: Raise for Rowyn. It’s a non-profit that provides financial assistance and emotional support to families who have lost a child.

This was a way for them to pay it forward.

The organization has helped more than 170 families around the country.
