BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Stephen Mylett, currently the Southlake (Texas) Police Chief, has accepted an offer to head the Bellevue Police Department, according to City Manager Brad Miyake.

"I am looking forward to becoming a member of the Bellevue team and leading the dedicated men and women of the Bellevue Police Department," Mylett said. "Together, we will continue to partner with the community to move the city forward as one of the safest in the state and country."

Mylett has led the Southlake Police Department since 2011. He spent 23 years before that with the Corpus Christi Police, starting as a cadet and rising to assistant chief.

The city of Bellevue is working to finalize the offer to Mylett, Miyake said.

"After a very extensive and thorough search, the community, including our police officers, voiced resounding support for Chief Mylett," said Miyake. "I am confident he will do an outstanding job serving the Bellevue community, leading the police department and working with our regional partners."

Bellevue launched the search for police chief last summer, but didn't hire anyone after the first round of on-site interviews interviews in October. They used Police Executive Forum, a firm specializing in recruitment, to find candidates for the second round.
