Rainier Beach High in Seattle awarded $10,000 theater grant

Rainier Beach high school in Seattle was one of 50 high schools across the county to be awarded NBC’s R.I.S.E America grant. Rainier Beach was the only high school in Washington to receive the grant.

The $10,000 grant will help fund critical needs of their theater programs, ranging from production expenses to technical equipment expenses and master classes.

Over 1,000 schools applied to receive the grant. Each school submitted a video celebrating their theater program and a 500-word essay explaining why they should win the $10,000 grant and how they would use the money. Each applicant also submitted a letter of recommendation from a school principal or administrator.

The program, inspired by NBC’s upcoming drama “Rise” about a high school theater department, is awarding $500,000 to theater programs across the country.
