Eastbound SR 18 in Auburn reopens over 10 hours after semi-truck rollover

The road was closed as guards worked to repair the guardrail, clear the roadway of debris and clean the spilled diesel.

AUBURN, Wash. — Eastbound State Route 18 in Auburn reopened over 10 hours after a semi-truck rolled over on the Green River Bridge Tuesday morning.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said cleanup of the accident could "be a while." The road was closed as guards worked to repair the guardrail, clear the roadway of debris and clean the spilled diesel. According to the Department of Ecology, it is unclear how much diesel had spilled.

Jonathan Lowry was driving on Highway 18 near the Green River Bridge when Tuesday morning’s wreck happened in front of him.

"I am extremely surprised that nobody one was hurt or dead," Lowry said. "We are doing about 60 then all of a sudden you see a bunch of dust coming in the air. Then you see the truck flip back up and just flop over on the bridge and block both lanes."

Traffic was being diverted onto Auburn/Black Diamond Road.

The backup stemming from the accident was around three miles long at around 7 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
