Over 100 Thanksgiving dinners packed for Hilltop homeless

Women pack dinners for the homeless on the Hilltop in Tacoma.

The family of a late Tacoma woman is continuing her legacy of feeding the Hilltop community.

The second annual "Thanksgiving Set the Table Feed" honors Nora Lee Walker, who used to prepare and deliver hundreds of homecooked meals every Thanksgiving.

“With the climate today, we know that people don’t have the resources that they need to feed themselves for Thanksgiving, so we come together to make sure they are fed,” said LeNora Ponzo, Walker’s granddaughter.

Ponzo said Thursday if people can't go to the dinner, the dinner will go to them.

“The homeless community, they have their belongings with them,” Ponzo said. “They don't want to leave them, so we're going to go to them and make sure that they get a plate.”

The Nora Lee Walker Foundation and local Order of the Eastern Stars hosted the event.
