Live music in Seattle, week of 1/16 - KEXP's Music That Matters

Grammy winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo is at The Neptune this Sunday.

Each week, The Morning Show's DJ John Richards from KEXP 90.3 FM makes recommendations to help us sort through the many incredible options for live music in Seattle's music scene.

  • WED 1/17 The Secret Sisters - The Tractor - The sister harmony duo from Muscle Shoals, Alabama released their third album You Don't Own Me Any More last summer.
  • THURS 1/18 Nacho Picasso - Neumos - Nacho Picasso's new album AnitHero vol. 2 came out last year. Kung Foo Grip and Stas Thee Boss open the show.
  • THURS 1/18 & FRI 1/19 St. Vincent - The Moore - MASSEDUCTION, St. Vincent's most recent album, was released in October. These shows might be sold out so look for your tickets on the secondary market.
  • THURS 1/18, FRI 1/19 & SAT 1/20 War - Jazz Alley - Classic funk and jazz band War plays a three night stand at Jazz Alley.
  • SAT 1/20 Smokey Brights - The Tractor - Smokey Brings are celebrating the release of their new EP Come To Terms, on Freakout Records. The record is produced by British producer Sam Bell, who has worked with R.E.M. and Minus the Bear.
  • SUN 1/21 Ladysmith Black Mambazo - The Neptune - Ladysmith Black Mambazo gained international fame when they sang on Paul Simon's Graceland album. They have recorded over 50 of their own albums and have won four Grammy Awards.
