Orca population: Only 73 Southern Resident killer whales left in the wild

There are just 73 Southern Resident killer whales left in the wild as of August 2019. Three more orcas were declared dead by the Center for Whale Research on August 6. The orca population has dwindled in recent years based on several factors: boat noise, reduced food supply, and contaminants in the water.
