Bill would reduce rape kit backlog

There may be relief in sight for the state's backlog of untested rape kits. Thousands of DNA kits are sitting on the shelves of police stations, and the state's crime lab. Lack of resources means it can take years to process the kits. But there is a new move in Olympia, to shorten that shelf life, to six weeks. South Bureau Chief Drew Mikkelsen spoke with a rape survivor, who says the law would make the community safer, while also sending a message.
