One day after reports indicated Seattle is expected to release defensive tackle Malik McDowell, the Seahawks are reportedly showing interest in another troubled defensive tackle who was taken early in the second round.
A tweet by Darren Wolfson indicates the Seahawks have (had?) some interest in free agent tackle Ra’Shede Hageman.
Hageman, 27, was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Falcons. He played in 44 games between 2014-2016, recording four sacks and 40 tackles. The Falcons cut him just before the start of the 2017 season, a season he missed entirely.
His release stemmed from charges of domestic violence that resulted in him landing on the Commissioner’s exempt list. After a thorough investigation, the Falcons opted to cut Hageman.
Hageman has been working out and is trying to catch on to a team to try and re-start his NFL career. Seattle’s interest in Hageman remains unclear, but McDowell’s expected release does open another spot for a defensive tackle.
Currently, new signees Tom Johnson and Shamar Stephen will compete with Frank Clark, Jarran Reed, Nazair Jones, Dion Jordan and Marcus Smith for snaps up front.
Cliff Avril, who is in Haiti doing charity work, is still on the roster, although his health is questionable following a neck injury that sidelined him last season.
