Smoke from California wildfires creates hazy skies over Puget Sound

Wildfire smoke from California is drifting over western Washington this weekend.

SEATTLE — Wildfire smoke from California is causing hazy skies across the Puget Sound region.

Most of the particle matter will remain above 6,000 feet, though light smoke could reach the surface later in the day, according to KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott.

"Right now, it looks like we should clear out over the weekend and stay that way next week - through we might see some smoke from the Evans Canyon fire midweek. It may make for interesting sunsets...," Marriott said.

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency says the smoke will drop the air quality around Puget Sound down to moderate at the worst.

The smoke could linger into Saturday. However, Onshore winds are expected Saturday morning that will clear out low-level smoke, according to Marriott.
