Washington's Mount Baker having a banner year with snowfall

Mt. Baker Ski Area has more than 36 feet of snow this season, making it one of the snowiest ski area in North America.

Mt. Baker is having a banner year, reaching 437 inches of snow by Feb. 20. That's more than 36 feet of fresh snowfall.

Baker is well on track to reach the annual average snowfall, which is 663 inches or just over 55 feet.

But all of this season's snowfall is a far cry from the world record set at Mt. Baker in the 1998-99 season. That winter, Baker measured 1,140 inches of snow — or 95 feet. That's a worldwide record for most snow to fall anywhere in one season.

Mt. Baker Ski Area is in the northwest corner of Washington state, in Whatcom County. The ski area is located in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest outside of Bellingham, just over 130 miles from Seattle.
