Washington ski areas open after heavy snowfall

Several ski areas are opening for the first time this weekend.

A week of heavy mountain snowfall means most of Washington's slopes are finally opening up for the season.

This past Wednesday was opening day at Stevens Pass ski area, which currently has almost all chairs open on the front side with the exception of the Double Diamond chair. The Mill Valley side is still closed until further notice.

Wednesday was also opening day for the Mount Baker ski area. The White Salmon Base Area will be open, while the Heather Meadows Base Area will be closed. All chairs will be operating except for chairs 1 and 2, and the Heather Meadows handle tow.

The Summit at Snoqualmie opened Friday, December 14 with limited operation. Summit West will be available for skiers and boarders.

Crystal Mountain is currently operating the Chinook Express, Forest Queen, Discovery, and Quicksilver chairs. The Rainier Express and Green Valley chairs are operational dependent on wind.

White Pass opened for operation on Friday, December 14. The Nordic Center is now open for the season and the Alpine area is currently operating on the Great White, Far East, #4, Basin, and Carpet lifts.
