It was far from calm Monday morning on the waters of Puget Sound and Salish Sea.

Somewhere between 5:30-6:30 a.m., the Yakima sailing on the Anacortes-San Juan Island route recorded a 90 mph wind gust, well above the sustained winds recorded throughout the region.

During a sailing on the Edmonds-Kingston route, a galley window shattered when the Puyallup hit a large wave, according to Washington State Ferries spokesperson Ian Sterling. (See shattered window below)

Despite the powerful storm and rough waters, service continued throughout the region. Around 9 a.m., there were only two vessels behind schedule.

The storm that blew into the region Sunday night knocked out power to several thousand people, most of whom live in the Bellingham area and Whatcom County.

Snow covered roadways caused problems for drivers throughout western Washington during the morning commute. By 11 a.m., it was still snowing in many places, but was expected to start tapering off
