With predicted temperatures reaching up to 90 degrees Wednesday, here are some suggestions for how to beat the heat during some of the hottest days of the year.

1. Head out to the coast

Sea breezes and ocean air make Washington's beaches the perfect places to cool down. There are several beautiful beaches to choose from, but La Push is a local favorite located on the Olympic Peninsula.

2. Visit a library

Beat the heat by heading out to your local public library. Not only will you be able to appreciate the air conditioning, but you can relax reading any books available to you. Win-win!

3. Take a hike

Maybe hiking up a mountain doesn't seem so appealing in this heat, but there are several shorter hikes that lead to water features for cooling off. The Denny Creek slides are located just before the Snoqualmie Pass ski area and feature natural "slides" with cold water running over them. The hike out to the slides is very short and accessible for the entire family.

4. Get out on the water

There is an abundance of water here in the Pacific Northwest which allows for a huge variety of activities. Boating, canoeing, paddle boarding, and swimming – there is something for everyone. Kayaking is popular and enjoyable for people at any skill level. We recommend Titlow Park in Tacoma if you want to see beautiful beaches and marine life.

5. Go to the coldest place on Earth

If all else fails, just go ahead and book a trip to Oymyakon, Russia, the coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth. With a record low of -89.9 degrees Fahrenheit, this Siberian town is sure to help you beat the heat. To get there you will have to start by booking a ticket to the nearest airport in Yakutsk, which is 576 miles from Oymyakon. A cheap flight from Seattle will cost you about $2,600 with layovers in San Francisco and Moscow and comes in at a total travel time of just over 36 hours. From there, rent a car and embark on the 21 hour journey from Yakutsk to Oymyakon. After over two days of consistent travel you can finally relax, leaving all the heat behind.
