This Olympic Peninsula hike is not too difficult – just over seven miles round trip and 1,300 feet elevation gain, and the rewards are great. It offers wonderful views of Lower Lena Lake, and even overnight camping options – fire rings included.
The trailhead is also the beginning of the climb to summit a couple peaks known as The Brothers.
Make your way up a rocky, but well-marked path. Even though there are plenty of switchbacks, make sure you stick to the trail. Hikers that go off the trail lead to erosion problems and damage vegetation. Trail workers do their best to steer you in the right direction.
Look for gigantic boulders which are signs of glacial movement many, many years ago. You'll cross a couple cool bridges over drainage from Upper and Lower Lena Lake.
Lower Lena Lake becomes visible shortly after the second bridge. Another quarter mile further leads you to a beautiful overlook.
