Semi-truck loses lumber load in wreck on I-5 in Everett

Southbound traffic on I-5 in Everett slowed after a wreck involving cars and a semi made a giant mess when the semi lost its load of lumber.

EVERETT, Wash. — A multi-car wreck that also sent a semi-truck off the freeway brought traffic to a crawl for southbound drivers on Interstate 5 in Everett Friday morning.

Washington State Patrol says shortly after 6 a.m. they got a call about a semi that lost its load on the Pacific Avenue on-ramp to I-5 southbound. The semi was carrying lumber, and it spilled over the freeway and on-ramp.

The incident began, according to WSP, with three cars that had been involved in a wreck while heading southbound. WSP is still determining how the semi became involved.

WSP said the driver of the semi and a driver of one of the other cars involved in the wreck were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Pacific Avenue on-ramp was closed for the morning commute. Traffic southbound was backed up as far as seven miles at one point.

WSP said it could be several hours before they reopen the on-ramp as crews clean up.
