Vehicle fell 40 to 50 feet from Seattle overpass, killing driver

A 50-year-old male was found dead in the vehicle that was exiting State Route 99 when it crashed.

SEATTLE — A 50-year-old man was killed Feb. 28 after the vehicle he was driving fell 40 to 50 feet off an overpass in Seattle.

The vehicle was traveling north on State Route 99 when it exited to South Michigan Street from the First Avenue Bridge in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood. The vehicle struck a jersey barrier, rode on top of it, before falling off onto South Michigan Street, according to information from Washington State Patrol.

The vehicle rolled before coming to a rest near South Michigan Street and Occidental Avenue South.

The driver, identified as James Ball, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined speed was a factor in the crash.

The road was blocked for just over three hours and 40 minutes.
