Three closures on two major roadways are lined up for this busy weekend while Washington State Department of Transit crews work on roadway infrastructure and the Seafair Torchlight Parade takes place.

Southbound I-5 downtown Seattle

All lanes of southbound I-5 will be closed overnight throughout the entire weekend, July 27-29, between Stewart and Spring streets. The closures will take place every night from midnight to 5 a.m.

In addition to the lane closures, on-ramps at Mercer and Yale streets will also be closed.

During the closure, WSDOT crews will be testing the fire suppression system underneath the Washington State Convention Center.

Detour signs will be in place and express lanes will be open southbound overnight to accommodate for the closure.

Northbound I-5

During the early morning hours of this weekend, Northbound I-5 will be reduced to two lanes between SR 520 and Northeast 45th Street. From 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. on July 28 and 29, crews will be performing deck repair work on the Ship Bridge Canal.

The Harvard Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed during the maintenance period.

Northbound SR 99 Downtown Seattle

A short closure on SR 99 will take place on the evening of July 28 for the Seafair Torchlight parade. From 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., all lanes and ramps on northbound SR 99 will be closed between the West Seattle Bridge and Harrison Street. Find more info on the Seafair closures.

Events

Expect an increase in the amount of traffic due to events around the city. With the Seafair torchlight run and parade on Saturday evening and a Sounders match at 2 p.m. at Centurylink Field, main roadways will be busier than usual.
