19,400 gallons of wastewater spill into Puget Sound during Shoreline outage

Thousands of gallons of wastewater flowed into Puget Sound for 20 minutes when a Shoreline pump station lost power.

About 19,400 of gallons of wastewater spilled into Puget Sound after the Richmond Beach Pump Station lost power Monday.

A King County wastewater operator went to reset pump operations after the pump house lost power about 9:02 a.m., according to King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks.

However, thousands of gallons of wastewater flowed into Puget Sound for about 20 minutes before the pump station began operating normally again.

King County will initiate beach monitoring and reported to spill to health and regulatory agencies.
