While the Seattle Seahawks take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon to close out the regular season, another game with high stakes will be underway.
The Atlanta Falcons have a showdown with the Carolina Panthers to decide if the Falcons will clench a playoff berth.
Pending a Seattle win over Arizona, the Falcons-Panthers outcome will also decide whether or not the Seahawks secure a Wild Card playoff spot, and make it to the postseason for a sixth-straight appearance.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson says, however, he won’t be paying attention to what’s going on in the other game. “I’ll make sure that I am very locked in on what we’re doing,” Wilson said. “It’s something that I always try to focus on and not pay attention to other scores going on or anything like that.”
A Seahawks win over the Cardinals won’t be a breeze either. Arizona has won three of the four past matchups at CenturyLink Field. “We want to be able to end the season on a positive note at home, and hopefully get a chance to continue on,” Wilson said. “I’ve always said this, but you always want to get to December with a chance. I know there’s a lot of teams with no chance right now, and I think for us, we have a great chance.”
The Seahawks have little control of their playoff destiny come Sunday, but they’ll better their chances with a win over the Cardinals. Kick off for the must-win game is set for 1:25 p.m. PT.
