SEATTLE — The Seahawks have terminated contracts with wide receiver Doug Baldwin and strong safety Kam Chancellor.
The team announced Thursday it was cutting the players after they both failed physicals.
“These are two of the most iconic players in franchise history and both were instrumental in establishing our championship culture, great examples of competitiveness and leadership on the field and in the community,” Seahawks General Manager John Schneider said in a statement. “These legendary players will always be a part of our Seahawks family.”
Chancellor spent the last season on the reserve after suffering a neck injury in 2017.
One of the original members of the Legion of Boom, Chancellor was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, out of Virginia Tech. He was signed to the team in June 2010.
Baldwin battled numerous injuries last season, including a knee injury during the preseason and a second injury to his other knee during the first game of the season. In April, Schneider said he was considering retirement after undergoing multiple surgeries in the off-season.
An eight-year NFL veteran, Baldwin is a two-time Pro Bowl selection who has twice topped 1,000 yards receiving. He led the NFL with 14 touchdown catches in 2015 and a year later had a career-high 94 catches. Baldwin has started 76 of the past 77 games for the Seahawks dating to 2014 and has been the most trusted pass catcher for Russell Wilson during their time together.
