With the NFL Draft just a little over a week away, NFL.com’s Marc Sessler took a stab at ranking the 10-best drafts of the last 25 years.

The Seattle Seahawks landed at both No. 4 (2010) and No. 5. (2012).

Sessler listed Seattle’s most notable picks from each of the two draft classes.

Notable picks ’10: OT Russell Okung, S Earl Thomas, WR Golden Tate, CB Walter Thurmond, S Kam Chancellor.

Notable picks in ’12: DE Bruce Irvin, LB Bobby Wagner, QB Russell Wilson, RB Robert Turbin, CB Jeremy Lane, OG J.R. Sweezy.

“Under coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider, the Seahawks have earned a reputation for approaching the draft in a style all their own,” Sessler notes. “The results speak for themselves, with Seattle forming the Legion of Boom in rapid-fire fashion by selecting Thomas, Chancellor and Thurmond in 2010. Richard Sherman came one year later before the ‘Hawks padded their secondary with Jeremy Lane in 2012.

“Irvin’s first-round selection surprised people in that same draft, as did the team’s faith in quarterback Russell Wilson,” Sessler continued. “While clubs dinged Wilson for his non-prototypical stature, Schneider pushed hard for the uber-athletic passer, a show of faith that changed the franchise forever.”

While a number of key players from each draft class are no longer with Seattle, their success with other teams confirms Schnieder and Carroll’s eyes for developing young prospects into long-term NFL talent.

The duo has their work cut out for them in April, still missing both a second and third-round pick in this season’s draft. But if recent years are any indication, the two won’t shy away from trades to stockpile the much-needed additional selections.
