Just one day after being released by the Seattle Seahawks, All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman has reached to a three-year deal to join the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers. The deal is for $39 million dollars, with a $5 million signing bonus.

Sherman and the 49ers wasted no time getting a deal done, with Sherman and his wife having dinner with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan the same day the Seahawks announced his release. It was reported that Sherman had already undergone a physical with the 49ers as well.

Sherman received interest from multiple teams since his release, and had even scheduled a visit with the Detroit Lions before agreeing to join the 49ers.

Sherman, 29, is leaving the only NFL team he has ever known. He was drafted by Seattle in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL draft out of Stanford, located a short drive from San Francisco’s home stadium.

Sherman’s most iconic moment as a Seahawk came in the 2014 NFC Championship game against the 49ers when he tipped a pass in the end zone that was intended for receiver Michael Crabtree. The pass was intercepted, and Seattle went on to defeat the Denver Broncos for their first Super Bowl win.

Now, Seattle will only get to see Sherman twice a year when they square off against their NFC West rivals.
