Healthy Dion Jordan and Rasheem Green big factors for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have struggled to maintain a consistent pass rush throughout the season. Two players, Frank Clark – in his contract year – and interior lineman Jarran Reed, have done almost all of the damage for Seattle this season.

The rest of the Seahawks only have 3.5 combined sacks, and they have allowed opposing quarterbacks way too much time in the pocket.

“We need good teamwork, really,” coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday. “We need our guys to work together and Reed has done a nice job being a factor. He’s had more production than he ever has before at the midpoint here so we’re counting on him to continue to cause problems but we need to work together.”

One of the biggest factors has been health, with both Dion Jordan and rookie Rasheem Green missing time with injuries. That shouldn’t be an issue heading into a crucial Sunday game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Jordan has played in six of Seattle’s eight games, although he has been held to strict snap counts in a few contests. He has eight tackles, two QB hits and one pass defended on the year.

“What’s really helping him is that he’s staying healthy,” Carroll said of Jordan. “He’s feeling strong and he’s getting his rhythm and he’s a very aggressive player. He plays tough (and) has given really good effort throughout. We’re just counting on him.”

Green has only played in four of Seattle’s eight games due to a nagging ankle injury, racking up four solo tackles. He was one of the youngest players drafted last year, coming to Seattle in the third round out of USC.

Now healthy, he is likely to enter more of the rotation.

With both Green and Jordan expected to play extensively on Sunday, the Seahawks may be able to put some pressure on Jared Goff, which will help Seattle’s defense tremendously.
