Colin Cowherd ranks Russell Wilson among QB's who deserve big paydays

Playing quarterback in the NFL these days can make someone a very wealthy individual. Every few weeks it seems another signal caller is signing a new record-setting contract, only to have it broken shortly thereafter.

Once Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan signed his deal – worth $30 million annually – rumors began circulating about Packers and Seahawks quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson.

With all these mega-deals going around, some are asking the question “are any of these players worth this sort of money?” However, if you ask Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd, he can think of a few he wouldn’t hesitate to sign the check for.

Citing “maturity, talent, availability, and reliability,” Cowherd ranked 10 quarterbacks he believes are worth their massive contracts. Coming in at number five on his list was Seattle’s own Russell Wilson.

“I’ve always loved Russell Wilson,” Cowherd started. “You’ve got all sorts of political noise, ESPN ‘The Magazine’ (reports), he’s got below average offensive lines, wide receiving corps is pretty much Doug Baldwin and cross your fingers, and yet last year 9+ wins in every season of his career. It’s remarkable.”

“He has a defensive coach, the stars have mostly been defense, they went and drafted a running back this year because they’ve had virtually no running game for two years,” Cowherd continued. “By the way, second highest passer rating of all time. And a grown up! He’s mature, he is reliable. Chaos all around him . . . noise, politics . . . nine wins locked every year.”

This isn’t the first time Cowherd – born and raised in the Pacific Northwest – has spent time on his show praising Wilson. A few weeks ago Cowherd spoke at length how he doesn’t believe Wilson gets enough respect, even on his own team.

Given Cowherd’s passionate stance on the value of Wilson, perhaps Seattle fans might be hoping general manager John Schneider brings him on to help smooth out contract negotiations with the Seahawks superstar in 2020.
