Mike Leach jokes he has two years to 'obsess' about Chip Kelly's return

You might have heard, Chip Kelly is back in college football and the Pac-12. What that means – who knows? – but how the new UCLA coach will fare is a probable question for every other coach at Pac-12 media day.

LOS ANGELES – You might have heard, Chip Kelly is back in college football and the Pac-12. What that means – who knows? – but how the new UCLA coach will fare is a probable question for every other coach at Pac-12 media day.

Washington State coach Mike Leach doesn’t seem impressed.

The Cougars’ coach noted Washington State does not have the Bruins on its 2018 schedule with the teams in separate divisions, then cracked a joke. We think, anyway. With Leach it’s sometimes hard to tell.

“I have two years to obsess over the return of Chip Kelly,” he said. “Some people only get to enjoy it for one. I get to enjoy it for two.”

Kelly went 46-7 in four seasons at Oregon, including one trip to the BCS national title game. He then spent seasons in the NFL with stops at the Philadelphia Eagles for three season and one campaign with the San Francisco 49ers.

After spending last year with ESPN, he has returned to college football with high expectations and uncertainty how he will readjust after coaching his last game with the Ducks in 2012.
