Seahawks stumble in San Francisco - Hawk Zone

The Seahawks ran into problems on both offense and defense in a 27-7 loss against their division rivals, the 49ers. Sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino.

SEATTLE — The Seahawks weren’t able to get much going on either side of the ball Sunday against the 49ers.

“I’m going to blame it on the Monday Night Football Russell Wilson hangover,” Terry Hollimon said. “There was so much emotion, and the game was so hyped.”

Jimmy Garoppolo successfully led the 49ers offense to three touchdowns after an early, season-ending injury to quarterback Trey Lance. After talk of Jimmy G’s departure before the season started, many Niner fans are breathing a sigh of relief he’s still in San Francisco.

“I think they kept him because there really was not a market for him out there,” Hollimon said. “They couldn’t really get the value that they wanted for him. So now they look really smart.”

As for the Seahawks offense, they have not scored since the first half of the Broncos game, and they only made it past midfield on three of nine possessions Sunday. The offense hasn’t been able to run the ball well, averaging just 56 yards per game.

“In the National Football League, that’s not going to cut it,” Hollimon said. “You want to be able to run first so that you can open up the pass.”

The defense gave up many “leaky yards” on plays that should have been stopped for little to no gain. Bobby Wagner’s departure in the offseason left a big gap on defense in both play and leadership.

Michael Jackson was a bright spot in Sunday’s game. He returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown, the lone score for the Seahawks.

“He’s really showing himself, not just on defense, but on special teams,” Hollimon said.

The Seahawks face a Falcons team looking for their first win on Sunday at Lumen Field.

“This Falcons team, even though they’re 0-2, I think they’re pretty dangerous too,” he said. “They’ve got some serious weapons on offense.”

Both teams are coming off a loss, so it should be a battle for each squad to redeem themselves.

“A wounded Seahawk versus a wounded Falcon this weekend,” Hollimon said. “You guys better be in the building to support them.”
