Seahawks complete sweep of Cardinals

The Seahawks have won four straight games with a victory over the Cardinals Sunday 31-21. Sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino.

SEATTLE — The 12s traveled well to Arizona to cheer the Seahawks onto another win against their division rival, the Cardinals.

“There were so many fans out there with the jerseys on,” Terry Hollimon said. “We were louder than their fans. It was crazy.”

This young and hungry Seahawks team had a strong second half, scoring three touchdowns to run away with the lead.

“I think any time you can go on the road in the NFL and get a win, it’s always a big deal,” Hollimon said. “But when you can go in and face one of your division rivals, get another win, place yourself another step ahead of the competition in the division, it’s big time.”

The defense was able to contain Kyler Murray for the most part and hold an explosive offense to 21 points. After throwing an interception returned for a touchdown, Geno Smith came back to pass for two touchdowns in the second half.

“He steps in, and all of a sudden, he is playing phenomenal football,” Hollimon said. “He’s leading the league in passing, as far as completion ratio, and he’s passing above 70 percent completion, which is absolutely incredible.”

Geno is a leader and well-respected in the locker room, and his name has been mentioned as a potential NFL MVP candidate.

“He should be in the conversation,” Hollimon said. “The reason why he’s not one of the four front leaders right now is because there is some incredible quarterback play in the National Football League. And there’s obviously a little bit of bias.”

The Seahawks are headed to Germany this weekend to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With the long travel time, rest and staying hydrated will be important for the team. During the game, the key for the defense will be to stop Tom Brady.

“The offense is going to need to do their job too to keep Tom Brady off the field,” Hollimon said.

As the leaders of the NFC West at 6-3, the Seahawks are part of the playoff conversation and will continue to be with more wins.

“To be able to have this conversation this season is a miracle.”
