COUPEVILLE, Wash. — Happy Halloween! 🎃💀 Here’s how to celebrate — Coupeville style! 💀👇🏼
Halloween is a month-long experience at The Haunting of Coupeville, which is just a couple hrs away from Seattle including a ferry ride. This year’s theme is ‘It’s Practically Magic!’ ‘Practical Magic’ starring Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Stockard Channing was partially filmed here so it's only ‘practical’ to head there and celebrate! Every fall, the waterfront village makes it a point to celebrate the anniversary of the release of the fan favorite movie. It truly is their claim to fame! Watch the movie and look out for these stops:
- Toby's Tavern, known today as a local favorite for Penn Cove Mussels and a beer by the water, was transformed into The Catch and Fry.
- The Little Red Hen Bakery, an island favorite for baked goods, was Sally’s (the character played by Sandra Bullock) shop, Verbena Botanicals.
- The farmers market shown in the movie, shot in downtown Coupeville was stocked with real produce from local farmers and with seafood donated by Penn Cove Shellfish.
I brought one of my besties, Elizabeth, who is quite literally obsessed with Halloween to join in on the fun. We got to try out Fright at Fort Casey, which is every weekend in October. It goes from noon to 3 p.m. and it’s a super popular version of the ‘Haunted Fort.’ It was absolutely terrifying for me… but I am a wuss when it comes to anything haunted house-like. Then we enjoyed walking around town seeing the scary-crow trail, weary bones rest stop graveyard and a drink at The Brew Garden! You can also enjoy the famous Pumpkin Race taking place October 30th along with the Halloween Torchlight Parade on October 31st.
