SEATTLE — Chef and baker Niallah Cooper Scruggs always loved to bake. But starting her own business was a leap of faith.
Scruggs turned that faith into action during a pitch-style competition called Sharks at the Beach.
Urban Impact Seattle sponsors the annual event as a way to encourage entrepreneurship and to break the cycle of poverty in under-served communities.
Scruggs pitched her business, Sugar Queen Cupcakes, in front of a live audience; and she ended up taking home the top honor. That win also came with cash, which she plans to use to expand her business.
