Washington Congress members avoid Trump impeachment talk at Seattle event

Members of Congress from Washington state returned home for the first time since the Mueller report was released to speak at a trade conference in Seattle.

If you think special counsel Robert Mueller’s report is consuming Washington state’s elected leaders, think again.

Four elected members of Congress from Washington state sat on a stage at a trade conference in Seattle for an hour Tuesday, barely mentioning the Mueller report before a passing comment.

“The Mueller report, yeah, I said it," joked Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Snohomish County, after more than 30 minutes of dialogue focused on trade policy.

Larsen was joined by Representatives Susan DelBene, Kim Schrier, and Derek Kilmer at the meeting on the Amazon campus. They all discussed recent trade developments and recent missions to other countries.

Larsen said after the event that he’s not ready to jump to conclusions about the next steps in the wake of the report’s release.

"A lot of people have traveled to the destination they want to, as opposed to taking the journey and letting the journey take them where the facts say we should go," he said.

Larsen believes, along with other prominent Democrats, that the Mueller report is more damaging than first believed. However, while other Democrats have suggested starting impeachment proceedings, Larsen appears ready to be pragmatic.

"I'm not ready to say impeachment. There is not a pre-ordained outcome for these investigations," Larsen said. "I think they deserve a thoughtful, deliberate, and sober approach to a very, very serious question."
