Correspondent: Governor Inslee likely to decide on presidential run in weeks

Gov. Jay Inslee was in New Hampshire as he tests the waters of a presidential run.

Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee had a bit of trouble getting to New Hampshire. Once there, however, he didn't have much trouble sounding like someone running for president of the United States.

Austin Jenkins, Olympia correspondent for the Northwest News Network, tells KING 5 Inslee focused on climate change when he spoke with students at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The two-term governor has long pushed to fight climate change, and has said the Democratic party needs a 2020 candidate who will focus on clean energy and cutting carbon pollution

Whether the topic of climate change will be enough for Inslee to stand out from a growing crowd of candidates is unknown. Jenkins says messages were mixed over whether it is a winning topic. Some students say absolutely. Others believe it will make it difficult to become a break-out candidate.

But Jenkins says we'll likely know whether or not Inslee will run for president within weeks.

Previously, the governor said he would decide by April. That timeline seems a bit long, as candidates need to begin hiring staff fairly soon if they want to compete. To wait until the spring may be too late.

Meanwhile, Inslee has raised more than $100,000 to explore a presidential bid.
